Cuando iniciamos a aprender inglés, muchos de nosotros no tenemos claro el camino a seguir y cometemos errores que pueden afectar nuestro proceso de aprendizaje.

Y algunos de ellos, los más comunes, desde mi experiencia aprendiendo inglés, son:

Traducir todo literalmente al español

Google Translate, ChatGPT, DeepL, Linguee, Grammarly…

Todos alguna vez hemos usado estas herramientas pensando que nos ayudan a traducir el texto de manera precisa y concisa, pero la realidad es que al hacer esto resolvemos el trabajo sin obtener el aprendizaje necesario.

Lo mejor es traducir el texto poco a poco con el vocabulario que ya conoces, y si encuentras alguna palabra o frase nueva, ahí sí puedes usar la herramienta para resolver la duda. Hacer las cosas por uno mismo permite aprender más que dejar que una herramienta lo haga todo.

Translating everything literally into Spanish

Google Translate, ChatGPT, DeepL, Linguee, Grammarly…At some point, we have all used these tools thinking they help us translate texts in a clear and precise way, but in reality, by doing this, we complete the task without developing the learning process required.

It’s better to translate the text step by step using the vocabulary you already know. If you find a word or phrase that is new to you, then you can use a tool to clear up the doubt. Doing things by yourself helps you learn more than letting a tool do all the work.

It has happened to everyone: the constant fear of being judged, of mispronouncing a word or not knowing what to say when a native speaker asks us something. But the reality is that nobody is perfect. We are all learning, and we help and correct each other when needed. The key is not perfection, but fluency and authenticity when speaking and writing. In the end, practice makes perfect.

Poca o nula inmersión en el idioma – Little or no immersion in English

Normalmente, la mayoría solo se preocupa por aprender reglas gramaticales, estructura de las oraciones y tiempos verbales.Pero el inglés no se trata como si fueran matemáticas; el inglés se vive. Música, películas, videos en YouTube, cambiar el idioma de tus dispositivos, participar en grupos conversacionales… así no solo practicas tu speaking, sino que tu oído se acostumbra al ritmo y la entonación de los diferentes acentos.

Usually, most people only worry about learning grammar rules, sentence structure, and verb tenses.But English is not treated like math; English is lived. Music, movies, YouTube videos, changing the language of your devices, and joining conversational groups help you not only practice speaking, but also train your ear to get used to the rhythm and intonation of different accents.

No repasar lo aprendido – Not brushing up on what is learned

Se estudia el concepto, se aprende, pero nunca dejes de practicar: ejercicios en línea, hablando con nativos, grupos conversacionales, escribiendo…Lo que no se repasa se olvida. Recuerda: la práctica constante ayuda a que asimiles mejor la lección y la naturalices en tu speaking.

The concept is studied and learned, but never stop practicing: online exercises, talking with native speakers, conversational groups, writing, or even texting. If you don’t review what you’ve learned, you’ll forget it later. Remember: constant practice helps you internalize the lesson and make it feel natural when speaking.

Confundir palabras similares – Confusing similar words (false friends / homophones)

Son palabras que suenan igual, pero se escriben diferente y tienen significados distintos. Muchas veces pensamos que son la misma palabra, pero la clave está en entender el contexto.Mi consejo es: cuando escuches un audio y una palabra te suene igual, búscala en los subtítulos, anótala y repásala después para que tu oído se acostumbre poco a poco a este tipo de palabras.

These are words that sound similar, but are spelled differently and also have different meanings. We often think they are the same word. The key is understanding the context in which they are used. My advice is: when you listen to audio and hear a word that sounds the same, look for it in the subtitles, write it down, and review it later so your ear gradually gets used to this type of word.

English is not difficult; you just need the right guidance, the right resources, and the right support.
